The work of Agency for Cooperation and Research in Development (ACORD) in Uganda includes critical research into the causes of conflict, poverty and promotion of good governance. ACORD believes that social justice and equality are the basis of meaningful peace and its work focuses on redressing economic and social imbalances.
Current programmes include HIV prevention, research and training in conflict resolution and good governance. Most of ACORD's peacebuilding activities is conducted at the grassroots level, with local peacebuilders.
The organisation also trains local mediators and works with vulnerable communities such as internally displaced persons to ensure their safe return and reintegration. ACORD supports youth groups in different parts of Uganda to promote peace through dialogue, sports and drama.
