The Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) conducts research and study on Bangladeshi and South Asian conflict and security issues.
It works to include traditional and non-traditional security issues in its analyses, aiming to strengthen regional perspectives towards human security on the basis of democracy as a conflict prevention tool.
It also provides assistance to the defence and security sector to support the development of a national consensus on circumventing conflict.
The Institute aims to bridge the gap between academic research and policy analysis in Bangladesh, building a cohort of scholars, analysts and policy makers.
The Bangladesh Centre for Terrorism Research and Bangladesh Centre for China Studies, focusing on terrorism and China, are two key projects. The Institute also collaborates with the American Security Project, the Atlantic Council, the National Democratic Institute and the Institute of Regional Studies.

A unique publication on climate change and energy security in South Asia offers advice on future threats.
A major publication has recently come out on issues regarding energy security and the effects of climate change in South Asia. The book has been published under the auspices of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and the Centre for South Asian Studies in Nepal. The chapter on Bangladesh titled ‘Energy Security and Climate Change in South Asia: A threat analysis for Bangladesh’ has been authored by Major General A N M Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc (Retd), President, Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS). The chapter also offers assessment of future implications of the climate change in Bangladesh and recommendation for mitigating future crisis.

Rohingya Crisis: Policy Options and Analysis.
BIPSS has released a special report on Rohingya crisis titled, "Rohingya Crisis: Policy Options and Analysis". The report has been authored by Aparupa Bhattacherjee, Project Associate at National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) at The Indian Institute of Science (IIS), Bangalore.
Rohingya crisis has created immense pressure on densely populated Bangladesh in various aspects including but not limited to the economy, demography, and security. The politicisation of the issue may further complicate the problem let alone solve it. In order to address the issue, a strategy focusing on regional cooperation and collaboration is needed.

Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) under the auspices of its specialized centre Bangladesh Centre for Terrorism Research (BCTR) organised a workshop on Countering Violent Extremism titled ‘Countering Violent Extremism – Building Resilience and Capacity’. The participants were drawn from law enforcement and security agencies, academia, civil society, armed forces and paramilitaries, media and civil society organisations. BIPSS is organising a series of workshops and other CVE capacity building programmes supported by the Government of Canada.
Mr. Mohammad Monirul Islam, Deputy Inspector General and Chief of Counter Terrorism & Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC), Dhaka Metropolitan Police was the Chief Guest at the Closing Ceremony.
BIPSS also published a book titled “Local drivers and Dynamics of Youth Radicalisation in Bangladesh”. The book launch ceremony was held today and the book was jointly released by the Major General ANM Muniruzzaman (Retd), President BIPSS, Mr. Kamal Ahmed, Consulting Editor, Prothom Alo and Mr. Mohammad Monirul Islam, Chief of Counter Terrorism & Transnational Crime (CTTC), Dhaka Metropolitan Police .
