Part of the Catholic Church, the Commission Diocésaine Justice et Paix (Diocesien Justice and Peace Commission, CDJP) in N'Djamena was created in 1992. Its mission follows the work of the Vatican's peace and justice commission, and aims to promote respect for human rights and dignity.

In Chad, the CDJP works through parish committees to protect vulnerable people to by organising workshops and information seminars, awareness-raising campaigns, conference debates, lectures, and mediation activities between farmers and herders. It also help provide legal aid and other judicial assistance.

The Commission works in particular on issues to do with children, young people, legal defendants and prisoners, and religious leaders.
