The Defenders Peacebuilding Organisation was formed in January 2016. It was conceived out of a persistent desire to help rewrite the script of young people's story in Sierra Leone.
The hope is to help realign the wishes and aspirations of young people towards nation building through peace promotion and conflict prevention. Their focus is on showcasing the role of young people in nation building and conflict prevention for a more sustainable future. In a country where 80% of the population is deemed unemployed, a majority of them being young people, the Defenders Peacebuilding Organisation has focused on ameliorating conditions for youths.
The organisation uses advocacy through community outreaches with peacebuilding messages, training of young people and other small youth-led peacebuilding organisations on peace mediation, conflict mitigation, and other early warnings signs of threats to peace. For the youths with some level of education, the organisation helps to train them on job searching and how to find alternative means of seeking livelihoods.
