Gender and Media Connect (GMC) formerly known as Federation of African Media Women Zimbabwe is a legally registered organization that primarily advances the cause of women media practitioners as well as empowers women through the media.

GMC has been specifically advocating around gender and media issues since its inception in 1985. Since its formation, the organization has recorded some successes as evidenced by the number of female journalists working in the media and the promotion of some into senior positions. It has also been a key player in pushing for the adoption and implementation of gender policies in the media in Zimbabwe. Although there has been mixed reactions in this drive, the issues remain on the agenda of key priority areas for media development in Zimbabwe.

The vision of GMC is a gender sensitive and inclusive media that promotes women's empowerment, equality and diversity GMC seeks to advance the cause of female media practitioners through Advocacy, Training and Capacity Building, Policy Research and Implementation, Gender mainstreaming and monitoring. Among its immediate concerns is to develop Gender Policies for media houses as an empowerment tool to address gender inequalities in the media.  It also seeks to provide platforms for interface between journalism and media lecturers and women media practitioners, as well as strengthen women networking spaces e.g. media women networking platforms. GMC is also trying to build the capacities of female journalists so that they are as competitive as male journalists and want to stay in the newsrooms, as well as start a sexual harassment campaign and train women journalists on online violence and safety measures.
