The Maison des Médias du Tchad (Chad House of Media, MMT) was created in July 2009 by professionals from 7 media associations (the Union of Chadian Journalists, the Union of Chadian Private Radios, Professional Women of Communication, Arab-speaking Journalist Ligue, Communication Technicians and the Society of African Media). Originally the aim was to polish the tarnished image of Chadian journalism. MMT was established on 21 September 2010 and works on four major challenges in Chadian journalism: professionalism, ethical codes, dialogue and unity, and opening-up to other networks.
Since its creation in 2010, the MMT has focused on the following projects:
- “Exchange to better inform” from 2010 to 2012 with the DED and the EU.
- Convention for the support of Arab-speaking journalists and the written press in N’Djamena, in partnership with the US embassy.
- “Competent media for a sustainable peace” for conflict prevention with GIZ and 6 community radio stations.
- “Support to journalists and local actors for conflict prevention and pacific coexistence” financed by GIZ for 20 radio stations (ongoing project).
