The Office of Peace and Governance is one of the major units in the King Prajadhipok Institute (KPI). Its academic operations include study and research, education, capacity building, training and seminars in conflict management, conflict resolution and peace education. The Office also gives advice or plays a role in consultation, counselling, and mediation to manage and resolve conflicts by peaceful means at the local, regional, and national levels and promotes the use of peaceful means and public participation in prevention and solving conflicts.
In addition, the Office of Peace and Governance also promotes the establishment of a peacebuilding network by helping coordinate between concerned agencies at both the national and international levels, aimed at promoting and supporting long-lasting and peaceful democratic progress.
The Office’s study and research activities include: the academic assessment of conflicts and conflict resolution in Thailand; studying the meaning of terms regarding conflict resolution to create consistent understanding; producing case studies on the use of peaceful means for effective prevention and solving of conflicts; translation and publishing of books/ textbooks on conflict management, conflict resolution and public participation.
In regards to capacity building and training, the Office provides long-term training courses for interested agencies and persons, and certification on: basic concepts regarding conflict management in public policies by peaceful means; certification as a negotiator and mediator; certification of training for trainers in conflict management; and a course on conflict management for students in schools.
