Peace Players International brings together children through sport in order to promote a culture of tolerance, peace and respect
Since 2002, Peace Players International (PPI-NI) has been working in Northern Ireland. It promotes peace and reconciliation between young people from different religious backgrounds. Peace Players International brings them together to create mixed basketball teams.
It is hoped that through sport the participants will learn tolerance and respect for each other, as well as learning the value of co-operation. By taking a sport that is not traditional in Northern Ireland, and therefore is not associated with any particular community, PPI-NI have been very successful in creating mixed teams, and giving young people an opportunity to develop cross-community friendships from a shared desire to enjoy themselves.
