Peace Tree Network (PTN) was established in the year 2000 with a mandate to foster solidarity in the promotion of peace in Kenya. It came about as the result of continued consultations among peace actors in the region in conjunction with CIDSE-SAPNA. The consultations culminated in a workshop held in Nairobi, in 2000, on "The Challenges of Partnership towards an Alliance for Peacebuilding". The workshop led to the creation of the Peace Tree Network.
The mission of PTN is to develop and maintain collaborative relationships among peace actors in order to promote sustainable peace in the region. This is to be achieved by members cooperating to complement each other's strengths and enhance their capacity for a greater impact through exchange of information, experiences and resources.
PTN has implemented a number of projects in the Mt Elgon area to strengthen democratic participation of citizens. The organisation has also trained EX-SLDF members on skills to provide employment and business, and some of them have started small income generating activities.
