TEKAN Peace Desk is a faith-based, non- profit, non-governmental organization working in the area of peacebuilding, conflict transformation and psychosocial support in Northern Nigeria.
TEKAN Peace Desk is the diaconal arm of Tarayyar Ekklesiyoyin Kristi A Nigeria (TEKAN). TEKAN also known as Fellowship of Churches of Christ in Nigeria was founded in 15th February 1955 as an ecumenical body of 15 denominations. TEKAN Peace Desk came into being on the 1st of February, 2007. TPD started with one employed staff, external facilitators, Lutheran World Federation as donors and Bread for the World (EED) as back donors. It was only working in the area of Peace Building. Since then the organization has grown in staff strength and programmatic activities.
TEKAN Peace Desk is working in the areas of Peace Building, Psychosocial Support, Livelihoods and Humanitarian Support. In Peace Building, TPD has recorded remarkable successes. Noteworthy is the development and mainstreaming of a Peace Studies curriculum for TEKAN member seminaries and theological colleges in 2018.
The Desk’s interfaith skills acquisition programme Strengthening and Transforming Attitude for Resilience in Entrepreneurs known as STAR-E has brought together people of different faiths (Christians and Muslims) to learn skills, build relationships, improve livelihoods and strengthen bonds of peace. One of the beneficiaries who is a Muslim widow currently owns a bag making business with apprentices learning from her.
Also, the desk has recorded great successes of beneficiaries from the psychosocial support, a number of affected people de-traumatized and embarked on a healing process.
Over 2,000 households have also benefitted from the humanitarian interventions.
