The Red Nacional de Iniciativas por la Paz y contra la Guerra (REDEPAZ - the National Network of Initiatives for Peace and Against the War) was founded in 1993 after a series of peace initiatives. It is made up of national NGOs, civil society organisations and academics. The organisation supports, coordinates and disseminates local, regional and national actions emerging from civil society, and defends peace as a fundamental right of Colombians.
REDEPAZ's ultimate vision is of a Colombia in peace with social justice and a democratic culture that respects human rights, life and diversity. With a presence throughout Colombia, it promotes a culture of peaceful conflict resolution, sensitises people to the pain caused by violence and encourages the mobilisation of citizens. Since 1994, REDEPAZ has organised an annual National Peace Week to create a space for reflection, work and community of Colombians who are in favour of dialogue, reconciliation, co-existence and peace.
