The Northern Nigeria Peace Exchange aims to bring together a diverse group of civil society organisations from across Northern Nigeria, all of whom share a strong commitment to conflict resolution and peacebuilding, in order to share knowledge, experience, and lessons, and explore opportunities for collaboration.
The Peace Exchange will be hosted by Peace Direct in collaboration with the Peace Initiative Network. It will take place from 12– 14 July 2016 in Kano. Peace Direct is a British charity based in London committed to supporting local peacebuilders around the world.
The purpose of the Nigeria Peace Exchange is to:
- Enable local organisations in Northern Nigeria to connect with one another, share information and strategies, and explore collaborations for better co-ordination to tackle violence/mass atrocities and promote peacebuilding in Northern Nigeria.
- Collaborate on a joint analysis of the conflict issues in Northern Nigeria. The joint analysis will be published and promoted to key national and international stakeholders to demonstrate locally led analysis and solutions to the conflict issues affecting the region.
Local transport costs within Northern Nigeria and food and accommodation will be included for all attendees. Per diems will not be paid.
Introducing Peace Direct
Peace Direct is founded on the belief that wherever there is conflict, there are local people building peace, and that there will be no lasting resolution of conflict unless they are in the lead.
We seek to identify effective local organisations and provide the funding and the promotion of their work that turns their potential into reality. Peace Direct funds organisations in DRC, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Burundi, Israel-Palestine, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
We also promote their work, and that of over 1,300 other locally led peacebuilding initiatives globally through our website Insight on Conflict. The Nigeria section of Insight on Conflict contains information on many peacebuilding organisations in the country, as well as background information on the conflicts, and the latest peacebuilding research.
If you are a local organisation from Northern Nigeria interested in applying to attend this event, please refer to the ‘Nigeria Peace Exchange - Expression of interest form’. Only organisations from Northern Nigeria are eligible to apply. Female representatives are strongly encouraged to apply.
If you require further information on the event, or have any specific questions, please email laura.vermeer@peacedirect.org. The closing date for applications is 10 June 2016.
