Andrés Aponte
Andrés Aponte is a lawyer with a master's degree from the Universidad Externado de Colombia and coordinator for the Mennonite Christian Association of Colombia in areas of nonviolence. As an active member of the Mennonite Church, he has worked to promote conscientious objection, prevent forced recruitment, and construct non-military alternatives to social service for young people in Colombia. His work is framed within defending human rights and consolidating protective environments in communities affected by the Colombian conflict.
In his role, he has promoted advocacy strategies within the framework of Total Peace, coordinating with academic and governmental entities and social organisations such as the Ombudsman's Office, the YMCA and Viva la Ciudadanía. He has also promoted diploma courses and training spaces on nonviolence, providing tools for the pedagogy and accompaniment of young people. His leadership has been key to implementing a mutual support agreement with the Governorate of Nariño, with activities in Pasto, Samaniego and Tumaco.
Beyond his institutional work, Andrés maintains a constant reflection on justice and peace from an Anabaptist perspective, linking his personal beliefs with his professional practice. He has explored the use of technological tools to strengthen educational processes and improve communication with students in diploma courses. His commitment to nonviolence and social transformation has made him a key figure in the defence of the right to conscientious objection in Colombia.
