Amani Communities Africa (ACA) was founded in 2001. Its vision is to build a peaceful, just and equitable society in Africa. In particular, it seeks to promote a culture of peace and respect for human rights in communities through research and capacity building. They are dedicated to building communities of peace using gender and human rights based approaches.

Major accomplishments

ACA has established programmes targeting young people such as “Transforming Conflicts through Nonviolent Strategies: An Engagement with Kenyan Public Universities.”

It has also published work on the post-election violence of 2007/2008, including, in conjunction with the Maryknoll Sisters PeaceBuilding Team, A Psychosocial Response to Post-Election Violence in Kenya: A Peace Building, Trauma Healing and Reconciliation Handbook.
