The Center for Economic and Social Development (CESOD) is involved in human rights protection, conflict transformation, peacebuilding and democratisation in Nepal. Currently, the organisation is focusing on human rights protection, and in the past has worked on transforming armed rebellion, building peace, promoting grassroots peacebuilding and has conducted several research studies on conflict, peace and democracy.
CESOD are currently running a project aimed at young people associated with political organisations. CESOD aims to enable them to adopt peaceful means and constructively handle disputes. The project brings together young people from different political parties and civil society organisations, and provides capacity building opportunities in the areas of human rights and conflict transformation.
In collaboration with Action Aid Nepal, CESOD has completed a research study on "Nepal: State of the State". The research covered a wide range of issues facing Nepal, including the current state of the economy, politics and democracy, land rights and the impacts of globalisation. The book also explored the level of understanding of the general population, allowing organisations to better execute projects intended to increase knowledge and skills of human rights in Nepal.
