The Plateforme Interconfessionnelle (Interfaith Platform) brings together three different religious bodies in Chad - the Catholic Church, the High Council of Islamic Affairs and the Evangelical Churchs and Missions of Chad - out of a shared belief that their histories have often been manipulated in order to justify hate and war. Their conviction is that cultural and religious diversity should not support such action, and they have therefore come together to support local, national and regional conflict resolution.

The Platform works to raise awareness and inspire its constituent members to live in peace and support each other. It does this by organising workshops, seminars, training and debates based on religious values across Chad. It produces fliers and other promotional material relating to its work, from moral and material support to those fleeing the conflict in the neighbouring Central African Republic, to the establishment of regional groups of religious leaders promoting peace.

The fruit of this work is the celebration every November of the National Day of Prayer for Peace and Peaceful Cohabitation. The most recent edition of this event was notable for the participation of Muslim and Christian leaders from as far afield as CAR, Niger, Cameroon, Mali and France.

Since the establishment of the Platform, it has supported many activities in collaboration with Chadian civil society organisations and the government, including:

  • Organising the 2010-2014 National Days of Prayer.
  • Organising workshops on religious tolerance for leaders in Sarh, Koumra, Doba, Goré, Moundou, Bongor, Bol, Abeché, and Mongo, followed up with the establishment of local committees.
  • Providing financial and technical support to these committees in order to develop local training work.
  • Organising exchange visits between religious leaders on important religious days and events.
  • Supporting Chadian migrants returning from CAR.
  • Planning peace and training caravans in Maro, Sido, Danamadja, Maigama focused on refugee and IDP issues.
  • Organising a regional conference on violent extremism in Africa.

The Platform's work is regularly featured on national and private television channels, including ETV and ALNASSER.
