Save Green, Promote Peace and Sustainable Development (SGPSD) was founded in Kisangani in 1999. It works on many peacebuilding issues in Eastern DR Congo including arbitration, mediation and conciliation, as part of its goal to build social justice.
SGPSD works to prevent human rights violations including the arbitrary arrests of peaceful citizens or human rights activists. To this end it helps create local committees to monitor human rights violations, supported by advocacy directed at the authorities to develop lasting solutions to problems in Eastern DR Congo.
In order to resolve community conflicts, SGPSD works according to the principles of:
- Arbitration: listening to all parties and taking a decision.
- Conciliation: the conciliator listens to all parties and suggests a proposal to resolve differences.
- Mediation: working to find a solution to the satisfaction of all parties.
- Negotiation: looking for a deal based on hope and ambition.
SGPSD's work has been featured in La Reference.
