The SILM network (Peace network in Arabic) is a network of 18 Iraqi organisations working in the field of conflict resolution and peacebuilding in five governorates of Iraq (Baghdad, Kirkuk, Mosul, Diyala and Salaheddin). It is an initiative supported by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) which has followed up the official establishment of the network.
The 18 organisations are current grantees of USIP and have benefited from capacity building alongside financial support to implement peacebuilding activities. The foundation of the network was officially announced in December 2010 during a conference which approved the by-laws and the strategy adopted by the network.
The network will look at ensuring knowledge-sharing and exchange of lessons among its members and in the future should foresee to undertake capacity building of other organisations and peacebuilding education within communities.
USIP is dedicated to continue funding the network in order to make it sustainable.
INSAN Iraqi Society and Baghdad Women Association are members of SILM.
