Propaz is a private and independent institution working for the consolidation of peace, democracy and development in Guatemala. It aims to promote citizen participation in the public sphere, with a particular focus on conflict prevention and resolution.
Through training, seminars and social events, Propaz promotes the idea of dialogue as a tool not only to strengthen democracy, but also to prevent, transform and solve conflicts.
Among its numerous activities, Propaz organises:
- Civic coffees: meetings where citizen are encouraged to have constructive dialogue on the concept of civic participation, producing collective ideas and strategies to strengthen democracy in Guatemala.
- Training on the following topics: analysis and transformation of conflicts; constructive communication; decision making; negotiation; mediation; state and civil society relations; team work. Propaz organises short training workshops for civil society actors and policy makers, but also specialised and longer courses for academics and future trainers. It also works in schools and runs workshops for youth groups.
- Participation in mediation and negotiation processes: to facilitate agreements among conflicting groups and urge them to find common strategies and goals.
