The Gender Peace Security and Environment Trust was founded in 2010. The programme's mandate is to promote peace in Zimbabwe through empowerment programmes and peace education. Behind its programming is the notion that conflicts at household and community levels breed in poverty. As a consequence, it promotes peaceful living through eradicating poverty by encouraging sustainable livelihoods for the poor and marginalised groups. 

The organisation is transforming the lives of vulnerable groups in communities by empowering them through training in livelihoods and market skills, value chain approach, mainstream HIV and AIDS, constitutional literacy programs, projects and policies. It also empowers them through psycho-social support and family life education. At present, the majority of the members are rural women. 

In its efforts towards peacebuilding, members get together to work on each other's farms or plots, and different other activities that are part of their livelihood, such as brick moulding, poultry, goat raising, etc. Today, a good number of them are now entrepreneurs. 

People have formed Peace Committees whose job is to encourage community dialogues and preside over different forms of conflicts. All those guilty of deliberately causing conflict pay a fine to the organisation and the aggrieved party. 

At present, the organisation is carrying out research and collecting data on socio-economic such as gender-based violence, human rights violations faced by orphans and vulnerable groups. It also works with other organisations on peacebuilding and issues of economic justice.
