We’re looking for new written and multimedia content for Peace Insight. Send us a pitch showcasing local peacebuilding efforts in your area, or respond to international news from your perspective as a local peacebuilder.
While this call is for content on peacebuilding initiatives in general, we particularly encourage peacebuilders in Sudan, Syria and the DRC to pitch to us.
For Sudan and the DRC, we are keen to learn how local peacebuilders are responding to mass atrocities, and actions local peacebuilders believe the international community should be taking.
For Syria, we'd like to hear how local peacebuilders are feeling following the fall of the Assad regime, what their hopes and plans are as they look to the future, and what their peacebuilding activities were like before this.
What can you pitch?
The articles we publish are written by and for local peacebuilders, although we also invite local journalists to contribute stories about local peacebuilding organisations/ initiatives they’re aware of. We prioritise contributions from the Global South, and particularly encourage women, youth and marginalised peacebuilders to pitch. Articles are usually 800-900 words long, though we do make exceptions. We publish articles in the following formats:
- Articles about local peacebuilding approaches, challenges and impact.
- Explorative pieces on themes like decolonisation, neutrality.
- Commentary articles amplifying local peacebuilder perspectives on global issues.
- Contextual updates offering vital expert analysis of conflict changes.
- Calls to action for peacebuilders and/or the international community.
- Multimedia – videos, photo essays.
Across these formats, the best articles have a narrative flow and a clear core message. Wherever possible, demonstrate the impact of the peacebuilding initiatives you describe. Think about what lessons were learned that other peacebuilders would benefit from, or that academics in the field of peacebuilding should know about.
How to pitch
When you’re clear on your idea for the content, please send us a 250-word pitch about your content to this form. Your pitch should focus on the key message or argument of the article and highlight any peacebuilding organisations that you might interview or discuss. Remember that Peace Insight focuses on local peacebuilding efforts, rather than national or international entity-led work.
On this platform, we try to share articles that can offer lessons about local peacebuilding for local peacebuilders around the world. We're looking for accessible content that is readable and engaging for a wide audience, so try not to use too much jargon/technical language. Our readership is global, and includes local practitioners, students, INGO workers and policymakers.
We also have an editorial policy internally, which guides our decision-making on article publication. Peace Insight is managed by Peace Direct, and core values that inform our editorial policy include non-violence, dignity and respect, inclusion, trust and courage.
Rates: we may review our rates for 2025 but currently pay £170 for 800-950 word articles. For multimedia content, the fee will depend on its format and scope.
Send your 250-word pitch via this form.
All articles are subject to review before publication, and pitching does not guarantee publication.
