Bulawayo Agenda Trust (BA) was established in October 2002. It shares the vision of a democratic society in Zimbabwe in which people and civic rights are observed. Their mission is to remain a public focused organisation devoted to the promotion of debates, discussions and dialogues on issues of topical interest. The organisation has a broad-based, solid grassroot-inclined structure that supports its programmatic interventions
Objectives
- To provide a platform for conversation on issues of topical interest
- To facilitate birth, growth and maturation of a culture of listening and tolerance towards people's opinions and views without any acrimony
- To create an increased awareness on issues of governance, democracy, rule of law, human rights and development
- To promote research and dissemination of information on topical issues guided by the axiom that information is power
Through public debates, community conversations, leadership training, and focus group meetings, the organisation has managed to penetrate the previously marginalised communities in largely rural and semi-urban areas.
BA has launched numerous programs such as Public Meetings, Meet the Candidate Series, Defend your Vote Campaign, Civil Society Leadership Development and Local Governance Capacity Building among others.
BA has managed to increase the participation of previously politically marginalised communities in the national discourse and national events like elections. This has deepened citizen's awareness on issues of democracy, human rights and governance.
