Center for Media Training and Development is an organisation working to create a new Yemeni media free from corruption. It is considered to be the first non-governmental organisation in Yemen specialising in media training and development.
It was founded in 2009 in response to the feeling that most Yemeni media institutions are merely agents and representatives for certain individuals and parties and hence not conveying the real-would-be noble messages to citizens. It felt it was necessary to do something to strengthen the freedom of the media in the short and long-term.
Aims
The centre aims at the creation of a new Yemeni media free from corruption, focusing on training professional staff. It aims to:
- Enhance the idea of the significance of the media's role in sustainable development and elevating the ability of journalists to perform such a role.
- Promote tolerance and acceptance of others and reject the culture of violence in writing press releases and other media works.
- Strengthen the role of the media to educate on human rights and democracy.
During the last period, the Center was able to target 278 journalists, media workers and activists to promote a society of peace.
