Peace Development Center was established in 2014. Its main goal is to strengthen and facilitate peace dialogue between Georgian and Abkhaz/Ossetian youth and create space for Georgian youth to learn, gain knowledge about existing conflicts, perceptions of societies and persons living in these regions. The main focus of PDC activities is Georgian youth (youth in Georgia).
There have been two projects conducted by PDC so far:
- “Discussion Platform on Peace Building” in 2016
- “Discussion Platform on Peace Building 2” in 2017 (both projects financed and supported by the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia).
Both projects had a goal of creating youth groups and support their knowledge in Georgian-Abkhaz and Georgian-South Ossetian relations/conflicts. To create space/platform for Georgian youth/students in Tbilisi and 5 regional towns to listen to the Abkhaz, Georgian, South Ossetian biographical interviews, discuss, analyse and learn. After both projects, up to 550 students have participated in the workshops.
Main partners of PDC are Berghof Foundation which provides biographical interviews for workshops as well as methods of facilitation the group discussions and the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia as the main donor institution. PDC also closely cooperates with other local organizations engaged in peace building initiatives, inviting them as guest-speakers/experts on the workshops and conferences.
